Wayne Nomeland

My name is Wayne Nomeland and I have been a member of the Thief River Falls School Board since 2014.

I am actively involved on the Finance Board Committee, Negotiations Board Committee, Strategic Planning Board Committee, Transportation Committee, Multicultural Advisory Committee, NwALC Advisory Committee,  Multi-Events Center Outreach, and MSHSL Outreach.

I graduated from Grygla High School and attended college at Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls. I graduated from Bemidji State University in 1993 with a degree in Criminal Justice. For 4 years, I was employed by the Pennington County Sheriff’s Department as a Sentence to Service Crew Leader. I have been employed by the MN Dept. of Corrections as a Probation/Parole Agent since 1998. This job can be challenging but yet rewarding at the same time. I have been fortunate to work with a great office. My wife Jeri, has worked for over 20 years as a School Social Worker with the NWRIC in Newfolden. We have two children, Abbie and Alex. I have been a volunteer fireman with the Thief River Falls Fire Department since 2007. I really enjoy the camaraderie within the department.

As a family we are active in school and church activities. During the summer months, we enjoy our time at the lake and golfing. We also enjoy yard work and spending time at our hobby farm. Jeri and I also stay busy with our Young Living Essential Oil business. This has led to us creating many new friendships while sharing wonderful products. Jeri loves it because she gets to travel while I get to tag along to carry the luggage.

Our family enjoys living in Thief River Falls and our kids have had a wonderful experience in our school district. I enjoy being on the school board as it allows me to be involved in the community. There are a lot of positive things in our school and community. There is always more work to be done. (Don’t even get me started on the train issues.)

I believe that as a school district we need to continue to make decisions that are in the best interests of the students while being fiscally responsible. We need to keep pushing forward with policies that are in the best interest of our district. I am fortunate to be a part of a school district made up of a great administration and staff.
