We are often asked when a parent should keep their child home from school.

Here is what is recommended as guidelines to follow, students should stay home if they have:

• Fever of 100.0˚F or greater within the last 24 hours (without any Tylenol or Ibuprofen)
• Vomiting within the last 24 hours.
• Strep Throat, Impetigo, Chicken Pox, Shingles, Pink Eye, or other communicable disesases.
• Undiagnosed rash that seems to be spreading.
• Harsh, contagious cough that may put others at risk.
• Untreated Head Lice.

Use your discretion: your child may not have symptoms listed above but if you feel they may not have a successful day at school, please keep them at home.

Authorization for the Administration of Medication

All medications administered at school (prescription and non-prescription) will need to:

1. Be brought to the Health Office:
   • Prescription medication needs to be brought to school in the original bottle from the pharmacy with the current label on. 
   • Non-prescription medication needs to come in the original bottle.
2. Be accompanied by a note from BOTH the parent and a physician.

Guidelines for Returning to School After an Illness:

• Fever-free without medication for 24 hours.

• At least 24 hours after the last episode of:

  • vomiting

  • diarrhea

• For communicable diseases that are bacterial, such as Pink Eye, at least 24 hours after first dose of antibiotics.

• Rash: Children may return to school if the rash has been diagnosed as non-contagious or once the recommended treatment for the rash has been received. The diagnosis of a rash cannot be made at school. 

Sports Physicals are handled directly through the Activities Department.
